This pass Saturday over Easter weekend, I took the Manattan Walking tour of Hell’s Kitchen and Central Park. It was a delightful experience. We were a small group of eight or less, as promised. Our guide was the owner/operator Garry. Just let me say, Garry is a larger then life New Yorker! I mean he is the quintessential New Yorker in every sense of the word. This man lives and breathes New York. The love of his city and the pride he takes in sharing his wealth of information and experiences is infectious. I have been to New York many times but not this New York. Garry made the city and its secrets come alive. For four hours he regaled us with facts, story’s and some tall tales. All the while introducing us to some good eateries and food. No chain or franchised joints on this tour. All Mom and Pop operations, where the local New Yorkers eat. Also a pub with endless pumps of classic well known beers to many local crafted beers as well. This place was a gem and I returned there several times over the weekend.
The food samplings on this tour were good. As a French trained Chef, I know food. The ethnic cuisines were not my area of expertise but they were clearly good quality and made from scratch.
If you want a fun afternoon filled with good eats, good conversation, lovely walk with all the sites and sounds of New York as the backdrop, this tour is for you.
Thank you Garry, I am looking forward my next Manhattan Walking Tour!
I booked the Hells Kitchen walking food tour as part of a global family pre-Christmas reunion as something a bit different for a mixture of both ages and first time and seasoned NYC visitors.
Our tour guide Nancy was very informative with a real passion and had a depth of knowledge of the area and its history which provided us with lots of background whiltst pointing out some really interesting facts we would never have spotted or known about on a self tour. The tour took us to some “local” food places that we would easily have walked past as tourists. This was followed up with some tips for other areas of NYC we were visiting in the trip and an e-mail with details of everywhere we’d been taken. Also would like to say thanks to Nancy for going the extra mile and very kindly arranging candles on the “dessert” stop for one of our party for whom it was their birthday on the day.
Overall the food was excellent and let us try things we otherwise normally wouldn’t have and all of the group reported they really enjoyed the whole experience and tour. Highly recommended!
Thought I’d sent this review but obviously not! We were in Manhattan just before Xmas with our 3 teenagers and had a magical 4 days, one of which was spent with Alex on a food walking tour of Greenwich Village and downtown Manhattan and financial district. We learnt so much about the history, culture, famous characters attached to each point of interest, I just wish I could have recorded every word that Alex – our tour guide uttered. Then there was the food. Not tiny taster portions but individual servings of the best pizza in New York, Italian triple decker sandwiches, spicy balls of yumminess, Italian desserts and pastries, home made chocolates and traditional American sodas were just some of the food we enjoyed. We were stuffed and so glad we hadn’t eaten breakfast. Not only the best tour in terms of quality of info and anecdotes but also food. If you can book with Alex. What he doesn’t know about New York isn’t worth knowing. Highlight of our break. Thanks guys!
Awesome walking food tour of Greenwich Village Our tour guide, Alex, was great! Our tour was two hours long and packed with historical information and food. Alex kept the tour fun while he taught us about old New York. We got to learn about, visit, and (obviously) eat at some very unique places. I don’t want to give anything away because it was more fun to experience it and let the guide do his job (and he’s really good at his job). I can say I was skeptical of how much we would actually eat, but I can honestly say I was full by the end of the tour (and I can eat). My girlfriend wasn’t able to finish everything.
I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone. It was great for a couple of tourists like us, but we also had a local in our group who was learning things about the city as well. Next time we visit the city we will absolutely be taking another tour from this company!
This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in New York. We learned a lot about the history of Greenwich Village from Alex and he showed us some really great places to eat. The food was absolutely phenomenal. It was great seeing the high line park as well. Would highly recommend!
My husband and I enjoyed an entertaining, informative, and delicious tour of Hell’s Kitchen on Saturday. The tour had a nice intimate feel with only 4 couples. Our guide Nancy was upbeat and friendly right from the beginning and her energy never waned. Nancy has great enthusiasm for NYC history and she was terrific about balancing information around our 5 delicious restaurant stops. The food was delicious, the portions generous, and Nancy shared many entertaining facts about Hell’s Kitchen and about NYC in general. We left the tour with several great restaurants to revisit, a good understanding of Hell’s Kitchen today, and an appreciation of how this unique neighborhood history – complete with Irish gangs and the mafia – tied in with the growth of NYC northward from the Greenwich Village area. We highly recommend this great tour!
Whether it’s a tour of Grand Central, the High line, or Central Park no one does it better that Manhattan Walking Tour. Professional, knowledgeable guides, as well as small group sizes, make each tour interesting and special.
Alex made this the very best tour we have ever taken. We have been on walking tours all over the world. Alex was charming, helpful, very knowledgeable and entertaining. The food was outstanding. As he pointed out it brought back the best of memories. Tours like this are great fun when the guide really enjoys sharing his/her picture of their city. Alex exemplifies this better than any tour we have ever been on. A great tour with lots of interesting stories and facts, great food and meeting a wonderful person.
This tour was great. Really informative and really laid back. You see a local side to NYC you would never normally see. Highly recommend to anyone travelling to NYC, especially because of their policy of only 8 people on a tour. You really feel like you are spending a day with friends in the city.
Despite rain and high winds, we really enjoyed our High Line Walking Tour with Annabel on April 9th. She was interesting, friendly and knowledgeable and told us many facts about this area of Manhattan that is growing fast! A great insight into this stunning part of New York and we would definitely recommend it, we are first time visitors and loved every minute.
